Copperweld® MC HCF Armored Cable

opper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) metal-clad (MC) cable for healthcare facilities

Designed for patient care environments

Copperweld® MC HCF Cable helps teams manage cost, support compliant installations, and improve installation workflow while delivering efficient electrical performance in healthcare environments.

In hospitals, outpatient centers, and other healthcare facilities, electrical systems must support patient care environments while meeting strict code requirements and maintaining reliable performance. Copperweld® MC HCF Cable is designed for these applications, providing the grounding and construction features required for compliant installation in patient care areas. Its lightweight, flexible construction improves handling and routing in the field, while its bimetallic design helps reduce exposure to copper price volatility, minimize theft-related disruptions, and deliver efficient electrical performance when sized per NEC requirements.

Features and Benefits:

Designed for Healthcare Applications – Meets NEC requirements for use in patient care areas, including required grounding configurations for compliant installations in hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Cost Stability – Copperweld’s bimetallic construction helps reduce exposure to copper price volatility, supporting more predictable project budgeting.
Efficient Electrical Performance – When sized per NEC requirements, Copperweld CCA provides lower resistance and improved efficiency compared to equivalently rated alternatives.
Improved Installation Workflow – Lightweight construction and flexible design make handling, routing, and pulling cable easier across complex layouts and long runs.
Reduced Theft Incentives – The lower scrap value of Copperweld CCA building wire helps reduce theft incentives compared to solid copper conductors, helping limit installation delays on active job sites.
Familiar Installation Practices – Installs and terminates similarly to traditional building wire, supporting fast adoption without changes to standard methods.
Code-Listed Construction – UL listed and compliant with applicable NEC requirements for use in a wide range of Metal-Clad cable applications.

Construction

  • Conductors – UL recognized component (DVVV2); sizes 12-10 AWG: solid, annealed THHN/THWN-2 Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) with CCA ground; sizes 8 AWG and larger: stranded, annealed THHN/THWN-2 CCA with CCA ground
  • Conductor Insulation – Color-coded Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) compound meeting the required thickness of Type THHN/THWN-2 with a heat-stabilized nylon jacket
  • Grounding – Aluminum series 8000 bonding conductor to provide grounding/bonding path
  • Metal-Clad Armor – Lightweight aluminum interlocking armor

Identification and Applications

  • Identification: Copperweld® MC HCF cable is identified for use with wiring devices, splice connectors and equipment terminals rated for CC, Cu, Cu/Al and CO/ALR. Copperweld® Copper-Clad Aluminum is not dissimilar metallurgically to copper, brass or zincplated steel. If splicing with twist-on splice connectors, pretwisting is not required. Copperweld® MC HCF Cable is made with ASTM B-566 Copper-Clad Aluminum bare wire, which carries its own component listing, DVVV2, and is an NEC requirement.
  • Applications: Refer to Article 330 and 517 of the NEC. Suitable for use in “Patient Care” areas of hospitals and health care facilities.
