Copperweld® UF-B Cable

Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) cable for direct burial and wet location applications

Built for demanding outdoor and underground environments

Copperweld® UF-B Cable helps teams manage cost, support reliable installation, and deliver efficient electrical performance across residential and light commercial projects.

In residential and light commercial projects that require direct burial or outdoor installation, electrical systems must perform reliably in wet, corrosive, and underground environments while staying on schedule and within budget. Copperweld® UF-B Cable is designed to meet these demands with a durable construction suited for direct burial and wet location applications. Its bimetallic design helps reduce exposure to copper price volatility, minimize theft-related disruptions, and support efficient electrical performance when sized per NEC requirements, while its rugged construction supports dependable performance in challenging installation conditions.

Features and Benefits:

Designed for Direct Burial Applications – Suitable for use in underground and wet location installations, supporting reliable performance without the need for conduit in many applications.
Cost Stability – Copperweld’s bimetallic construction helps reduce exposure to copper price volatility, supporting more predictable project budgeting.
Efficient Electrical Performance – When sized per NEC requirements, Copperweld CCA provides lower resistance and improved efficiency compared to equivalently rated alternatives.
Improved Installation Workflow – Lightweight construction and flexible design make handling, routing, and pulling cable easier across complex layouts and long runs.
Reduced Theft Incentives – The lower scrap value of Copperweld CCA building wire helps reduce theft incentives compared to solid copper conductors, helping limit installation delays on active job sites.
Familiar Installation Practices – Installs and terminates similarly to traditional building wire, supporting fast adoption without changes to standard methods.
Code-Listed Construction – UL listed and compliant with applicable NEC requirements for use in a wide range of Metal-Clad cable applications.

Construction

  • Conductors – UL recognized component (DVVV2); sizes 12-10 AWG: solid, annealed Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) with solid CCA ground
  • Conductor Insulation – Color-coded Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) compound meeting the required thickness of Type THHN/THWN-2 with a heat-stabilized nylon jacket
  • Grounding Conductor – Sizes 12-10 AWG: ground is 12-10 AWG solid, annealed CCA
  • UF-B Jacket – 30-mil flame-retardant, moisture-resistant, sunlight-resistant PVC to safety listing standards; colored according to industry norms

Identification and Applications

  • Identification: Copperweld® UF-B cable is identified for use with wiring devices, splice connectors and equipment terminals rated for CC, Cu, Cu/Al and CO/ALR. Copperweld® Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) is not dissimilar metallurgically to copper, brass or zinc-plated steel. Copperweld® CCA is dissimilar to aluminum for making electrical connections. If splicing with twist-on splice connectors, pre-twisting is not required. Copperweld® UF-B Cable is made with ASTM B-566 Copper-Clad Aluminum bare wire, which carries its own component listing, DVVV2, and is an NEC requirement.
  • Applications: Refer to Article 340 of the NEC.
