Copperweld® Copper-Clad Steel (CCS) conductors combine the conductivity and corrosion resistance of copper with the strength of an engineered steel core. By selecting mild steel, high-strength steel, or extra-high-strength steel based on the application, Copperweld designs conductors that deliver the mechanical performance required for power grid infrastructure, grounding systems, overhead static wire, and other demanding installations. This application-driven approach helps utilities and engineers balance electrical performance, durability, and long-term reliability.
In this demonstration, Copperweld compares the break load of copper with several grades of steel to illustrate why conductor strength matters. As steel strength increases, so does the conductor's ability to withstand the mechanical demands encountered during installation and throughout its service life. For critical infrastructure, selecting the appropriate conductor strength can improve system reliability while helping reduce maintenance over time.
