In Celina, Texas, Copperweld® Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) Building Wire is already helping meet that need. Builders including Lennar, Pulte, Trophy Signature Homes, and Coventry helped bring CCA into the conversation as the city planned for rapid residential growth.
Dustin McAfee, Executive Director of Development Services at the City of Celina, shared the city’s perspective on evaluating new construction technologies as Celina continues to grow.
“In 2025, Celina, Texas added more residents than Houston. We remain one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States. When you’re issuing over 2,500 home permits a year and have a build-out population that’s north of 350,000, it’s imperative that you remain receptive to, and familiar with, emerging technologies in the construction field. We had builders who suggested the use of Copper-Clad Aluminum wiring in 2021 because we did not allow for it in the local electrical code. But after educating ourselves about its history of safety, inherent benefits, and its existence in the National Electrical Code since 1971, Celina revised its Electric Code in January 2026 to allow for copper-clad aluminum wiring products in residential construction. Now thousands of Celina homes are currently being built with it and tens of thousands will be built with it in the future.”
