The Build America, Buy America Act (BABAA), established as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in 2021, helps maximize the federal government’s use of goods, products, and materials produced and offered in the United States. BABAA requires that all iron, steel, manufactured products, and construction materials used in federally funded infrastructure projects must be produced in the United States. The purpose of BABAA is to bolster America’s industrial base, protect national security, and support high-paying jobs.

For over a century Copperweld’s American-made products have been trusted in applications that have supported the nation’s infrastructure and security.

In the 1920’s, Copperweld Copper-Clad Steel (CCS) telegraph wire, telephone wire, and railroad bonding wire were instrumental in expanding the nation’s communication and transportation network. In the 1930’s, CCS power conductors, ground wires, guy wires, and messenger wires played a key role in the Rural Electrification Program, adding electric-pump irrigation capabilities for farms across America. In the 1940’s, Copperweld was the leading supplier to the US Army Signal Corps for power conductors, ground rods, grounding clamps, overhead ground wires, and guy wires. Throughout WW2, Copperweld's reliability earned four prestigious Army-Navy "E" Awards for “high achievement in the production of war materials." In the 1970’s, Copperweld Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) was used in coaxial cables which supported the data and telecommunications revolution. Today CCS supports the expansion of the nation’s power grid, utilities, mining and transportation networks, and CCA building wire is used in construction projects to help reduce wire theft incentives, provide energy savings, and conserve copper for use in green energy initiatives.

Copperweld is proud to provide hundreds of jobs to hard-working American employees and U.S. veterans. Made in the heart of the American south, not far from Nashville, TN, Copperweld’s bimetallic products have been an integral part in building the nation’s infrastructure for over 100 years.
